No question about it.....Old School is one of the most valuable people we've ever had here at TruckingTruth, and so are you Daniel!
Old School is one of the only people I've ever had on this site that never says anything out of line in my book, and I can't even say that for myself. But I never review anything he says to make sure it's good advice or up to our standards because he's the type that pushes the standards ever higher. I may have a lot of trucking experience, but he has more experience in every facet of life than I do so I always look forward to hearing everything he has to say. And the longer his posts, the better!!! Never a wasted word. It's all immensely valuable.
Daniel, many people have mentioned on here that you're wise beyond your years and that's 100% true. You're also wise beyond your experience out there because of it. And the effort you've put in here to help people with everything from pre-trip inspections to living a good lifestyle on the road to advice on any topic imaginable has been far beyond what anyone could ever hope for.
All of the moderators we have here are amazing! There's no way to thank everyone enough for what they've done for people.
Although TruckingTruth has become a gigantic website full of awesome information, it's this forum that really brings it all to life for me. I enjoy the people that come through here immensely. And to see everyone helping each other out is incredibly exciting to me.
Here's to many more years of making friends and starting new careers!
A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.
Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.
Okay, let me say I sincerely thank each of you for your kind words, but I think Daniel is just trying to embarrass me. Not in an unkind way, more like you would tease or joke with a friend in an affectionate way. He, more so than most of you, knows I don't like being in any type of spotlight - don't need it, and sure don't desire it.
I think Brett summed up my feelings about Trucking Truth very well when he said this:

This is why I stay around, and enjoy participating in this forum. It is like the heart of the website. The information here at the web site is very valuable, but the interaction among the drivers here with the new inquirers as they help them to get focused on what is important as they start their careers is very rewarding to me. I love watching the others develop in their understanding about the career, and I enjoy telling my stories and giving insight where I can because there is just such an overwhelming amount of misinformation out there. It makes it so hard for someone who is just getting started with their research to build a decent foundation for their success. This is truly the only place I have found that provides such positive reinforcement of the good old American values that it takes to break into a demanding but rewarding blue collar field that is severely misunderstood by about 90% of the people who first attempt it. I believe we are making a difference in prospective truck drivers, and if we are, then we are making a difference in the future of our own careers.
I look forward to being a part of this for many more years to come. Again, my sincere thanks to all of you.
That's so true. I didn't know you needed marriage advice though... I spoke with Old School before once, he's always laughing and happy.
I'm not on here very often but I'm fully aware of how incredible Old School is. Very good person and a great writer!
Thank you Old School for your many years of contribution to TT!
Yeah - I'll tip my hat to the old guy too.
Great insight - in depth commentary...

Daniel,
What a nice topic to start!
Being a new guy here who's never driven a big truck, I'd like to add my appreciation toward Brett (who started it all, I think) and to the rest of you who've taken the much valued time out of your day to post and reply so that everyone, regardless of their 'time in' (especially to us new-comers, of course), maybe benefit hugely from what you all have to say. Thank you! But, this is for Old School specifically, so...thank you sir!
May Mr. Old School's travels be safe and his personal life be filled with happiness...we all need that, most importantly.

I agree with brett, Daniel has some good insight being a young fella.
OS has some awesome and amazing advice. Happy to read it all.

I've learned a ton from his posts, and I agree with everything thats been said here, but Olga's comment surprised me a little...
..., he's always laughing and happy.
I've always imagined him a serious, scholarly, professor type.
And, Daniel, I had read many of your posts before learning your age... and I was very surprised. Your definitely wise beyond your years... a future Old School.
Shoot I've never talked to him or met him before in my life but just from reading his posts and commenting on others convinced me to go flatbed.
I think both Daniel and Brett hit the nail on the head: it is often in my mind that if Old School has replied to a post then I want to read it because it will be reasoned and well thought out (even if I may not completely agree with his position) ... Old School is truly an asset to TT and I thank him for all of his efforts . . . you newbies out there don't realize yet how much effort it takes to keep up the "normal" aspects of life once you've signed on to this "Truckin' Life" and folks like Old School (and Daniel the Kid) are making great EXTRA efforts in communicating as much as they do on TT . . . it's not an easy thing to do . . . so, Tip-Of-The-Hat to Old School, Daniel and everyone else who took Brett's idea and made it worthwhile . . . it really IS a wonderful resource for people trying to get a handle on this truckin' life . . . now once you are as experienced as ME and you are a Super Trucker, well then it's not of much use . . . now if you think that last statement was sincere then you don't know what a smart*ss I am and how FALSE that statement actually is . . .

I know for a fact I'm not the only one who noticed just how helpful and intelligent Old School is. He's always giving amazing answers and advice, but for the longest time he's never really had much recognition.
So that's what this thread is for. To tell Old School just how much we value him on TT! I'm going to start it off by saying that whenever I see that Old School replied to a topic I just have to open that thread and read what he wrote.
He's the type of guy who turns a 20 word answer into a 2,145 character post. I always learn something from reading a post of his even though we have equal experience.
If a question is too tough, what do I do? I hide and wait for Old School to answer it first! I appreciate all the help you gave me when I was starting out and appreciate all the marriage advice you give me daily over the phone. You are special!
So come on guys. Let's give him some attention and tell him how awesome he is. Let's make the old man blush!!!
