After you pass and have your temp cdl a you do a 3 day orientation and then depends if they have trainers available... I got a trainer on my 3rd day of orientation at 10am before my orientation was over.... Once you get on the truck with your trainer you are out for 200 hours then you go back to the terminal too test out to upgrade to solo then your routed to your home state to transfer the temp cdl to your home state.... Let me add this make sure your home state accepts those temp cdls from another state... I say that because when I got back to Maryland to transfermine over is when I found out that Maryland does not accept them....

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

That's 200 hours of you behind the wheel, which works out to 4-5 weeks. The first 50 hours you and your mentor have the same schedule, same as a solo driver. The remaining 150 hours, the two of you work as a team: one drives and the other stays in the sleeper and basically the truck "never stops".
Also, when your mentor gets home time, they go home, and you stay in a local hotel. (Swift buys the room, food is your responsibility.) You might get a chance to stop by your house only if the planets are aligned and you get very lucky.

After you pass the school you need to pass all over again at dmv. After dmv you can go to orientation the following monday. If a mentor isnt available on Wednesday they put you into a hotel untill the mentor shows up.

They must of changed it cuz when I drove for swift the trainer couldn't take home time while with a student and this was may of 2014....
Why do you test at the school and the dmv? We did our test at the terminal with instructers that are certified from the dmv and when you passed they gave us a envlope with our results too take to the dmv and got our cdl... The next test we did was to upgrade to solo and that was at the terminal....

Not 100% sure but I think you go home to test....
At Swift in Phoenix the dot instructors came to our terminal to test us same road route and everything we had practiced, no surprises, they really want you to pass.
