Nice! I love my dash cam. Not quite as fancy as the one you got but it works great. Like you I plan to show people the truck perspective. I've also decided to help my company out by recording each store and uploading to youtube so either new drivers or if you haven't been to a store in a while you can get a good visual on landmarks and where the stores door is. They certainly have other advantages then just sitting on your dash. Enjoy it !
THat's a great idea Heavy. I actually thought the same thing in regard to showing some of our new drivers how to get into the terminal at Jersey City - that one's a real bugger till you know what you're doing. Everybody screws up their first time.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I thought briefly about getting a dash cam, I know it's a good idea but so are a lot of other things.
But wait a second...
It makes coffee for you?
Maybe I really need one.
I bought a less fancy one, but once I figured out the ins and outs of properly mounting it I love it. It came with a 4 gig card which was usless. Bought a 32 gig at walmart and it works great

Yeah, but get the kind that makes espresso too, for those nights you really need the extra kick w/o the extra liquid to, uhm... 'dispense' of.

Yep, mine came with a 4 gig card. Definitely useless. Especially before I adjusted my camera's sensitivity to event recording. Every pothole and bump filled up that 4 gig card within 15 minutes of driving.
Would you guys toss out some brands / models to look for and / or stay away from... I'm starting from scratch and I want to pick one up ...
grazie
AJ D,
Drop down to TA on I65 at the Goose Creek bypass, I bought a 4 Sight dash cam pony for about $55. A great introductory dash cam, night time video is poor though.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Thanks for the advice, brother. :)
I just picked up a DB4 from DieselBoss. I just wanted a basic unit to loop record constantly.
I don't have the time right now to shop and compare. I know this cat supports the stuff he sells, so I was in with his base unit. I just want some documentation of a crash that a pray never happens.

Just laid out $200 on the Garmin Dash Cam 20. Yeah, I know, a bit salty. It works really well - and makes me my coffee too.
Night recording is great, time stamp w/ mph, lat and longitude. Ability to dismount and take photographs. Handy button to quickly save an event, which saves files before and after the saved event file. Of course, also has a sensor to pick up vibrations for any impacts or sudden acceleration / braking. I got a 32GB card to be able to record over 4 hours of HD at 1080. Now my wife and daughter can see what it's like to venture into Jersey City and NYC at night! And... if I get side-swiped by another UPS driver pulling doubles , I'll have it documented.
As a side note, I mainly got this to protect myself from other truck drivers. Seriously, I've had more issues with other commercial drivers than I have 4 wheelers. What a shame. It's been fun showing videos to my family, but I feel even more secure having my dash cam rolling non-stop.
Doubles:
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
