Hey Dave, are you from the east Texas area? I'm from Nacogdoches. I went to the Lufkin Truck Driving Academy . I had a great experience with them. But let me just say that schooling is a lot like working in this business, a lot of your success depends on how you apply yourself to it. A great attitude and a strong work ethic will carry you a long way. There were some people who quit our class because they didn't like the school. You know trucking seems to attract an awful lot of people who think they know it all before they've even made a decent start yet. But anyone who is willing to listen and apply themselves can excel at this. That advice holds true for the school you attend and the trucking company you decide to work for. I'm gonna say one more thing that comes to mind about that school - they went out of their way to give people extra time and help if they needed it before going to take their driving test.
Irregardless of what school you decide to go to,you really need to work thru the High Road on this site. It will get you way ahead of what they will teach you in school. Thus, it will make your schooling less stressful !!!
Thanks for the nice replies! OK, sorry about this but I changed up and just drove down to the Post Office to send off an app for Midland Community College. They have a program that starts this June 10, 2013. It'd be a lot of fun to get into the program at that time. If not then, perhaps later in the summer.
On work ethic and all. I agree so much. One manager said once to applicants that skill/knowledge level for the job counted for 30% of what they considered in hiring. What counted the the other 70%?? Attitude. They said they rather have someone who perhaps was not up to speed on the skills but had the right attitude then hire someone who has great skills but wrong attitude. So true.
So I think that is important and my nickname is SunnyWalker as I am pretty upbeat with positive attitudes. My work ethic? Just finished up 20 plus years with Texas Dept of Criminal Justice and had a great career as a Chaplain. I worked with some great people and had a really super time with State of Texas.
This will be a new thing!
Dave, I agree with StarCar completely on the High Road Training Program it had a profound effect on my success, not only in passing the state exams, but also in my career. It is a very effective learning tool.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Hey Dave, in case you haven't come across these, we have a series of articles that will teach you How To Choose A Truck Driving School. There are quite a few articles but they'll give you some great insights about what to look for and where to get the information you'll need.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I read through the articles and based on the info there I selected Midland. Also I have started the High Road program and just can't understand how you can offer such quality helps to potential drivers for free. THANKS!

Same way, you as a chaplain, probably helped a lot of people that others might have thought were beyond redemption...it's a calling...
