Unfortunately I live in Kansas where most trucking outfits do not hire from . Very hard to get a job living here . I have found only a few and of course none where i live in the biggest city in Kansas . Kansas , where truckers go to die . If you do not work for a company that is located here you probably are not going to be working . well unless you want to work for the big guys no one wants to work for . will keep your ad in mind in case I decide to move .
I get that this is an old post, but I can't resist. I do specifically remember it has been almost a year to the day when I began thinking about driving a truck and started looking at jobs. Just for the record, I do live right smack dab in the central part of Kansas, hell I am in Salina to be exact. I am going to have to disagree with your statement that it is very hard to get a job living here. Are you kidding me?!?!?!? There are outfits all over the state that hire! Irish Express over by Manhattan, we have Great Plains Trucking in Salina, Groendyke Transport out of Hutch, let's not forget about Farmers Oil and Accord Transport. There's Keim TS up in Sabetha as well as Doug Bradley here in Salina, plus all the major companies you speak so poorly of that are hiring in Kansas. I can honestly count on one hand how many companies I spoke with that weren't hiring out of the area because their current accounts were full at the time, however, for that small amount that did not have any openings equated to well over 30 companies local and OTR companies I spoke with about positions. So you may not be in Salina next to 135 and 70 but come on man, there are a ton of options in Kansas for truckers.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I believe it was Brett and Old School and oh well a lot of the people that have been around here. Anyone can do well at almost any company if you do your job. Bottom line is these companies need drivers and bad, if youre willing to work it they will be willing to pay you for it, thats how they make their money as well. Im a new driver with a mega carrier and I have no real complaints, most of the people I associate with are running hard, and getting miles,
I would also like to point out one thing that I encountered when researching companies. If I google " Bad trucking companies" Itd be easier to tell you whos not listed. Every company has someone who hates them for this or that and the larger the company the more there are.
Im not saying every company is good, but with as easy as it is to get a trucking job now, if they were that bad they wouldnt be successful.
