Did the same thing with another piece weighing 945 lbs to Petaluma, California as well. At least I had a backload on that trip. smile.gif

Use to live 20miles north of Petaluma in Santa Rosa, CA. beatiful area. sometimes miss it.

I hauled 600lbs of military laptops. High Value priced around the 1.6 billion mark.

A month after Colorado legalized marijuana, I hauled a full load of Frito Lay chips from Casa Grande, AR to Denver. Was told to put two load locks at the end of the load to keep from shifting. When I opened the doors, there was no room for the load locks as the trailer was completely full. Total load weight was less than 8,000 lbs. I also had to sign an agreement to take a low altitude route assigned by Frito Lay to keep the bags from popping.

Another interesting load: Pig Launchers/Retrievers for the gas company. flatbed loaded with Pig Launchers/Retrievers for the gas company

I've never personally driven a flatbed... but If I did, I think the Coaster Enthusiast in me would be really jazzed up about hauling track for a new Rollercoaster to a theme park somewhere. dancing-dog.gifsmile.gifdancing-banana.gifdancing-dog.gifflatbed hauling roller coaster track

I don't flatbed, but have come across a few interesting loads. This one is of a HUGE Kenworth truck that I assume is headed for a mine somewhere, caught this pic in Cheyenne, WY:

And here is the world's largest barbecue. It's a tanker truck converted into a barbecue, caught this pic in Modesto, CA:

About 6 months ago, I picked up a load in Iowa destined for California. Turns out, it was a load of those cup carriers that McDonalds uses, you know the type that holds 4 cups to keep them from spilling for to go orders.

So as I am getting my BOL processed, the forklift driver asks me if I know what those cup carriers are made from. I replied that I didn't.

He proceeds to inform me that they are made from recycled porn magazines. As you can imagine, he piqued my interest.

I walked over to one of the pallets, bent down and looked closely, and told him I thought I could see some cleavage right there close to one of the corners.

The entire trip, I kinda felt like a guy with his back turned, waiting for a lady to get dressed.

I suppose this is part of McDonalds new campaign to use all natural ingredients, but my guess is there was bound to be some cosmetic enhancements somewhere in the mix.

Um, lets see, video equipment for a Florida Georgia Line thing, numerous loads of staging, lighting, sound and video equipment for festivals and one off shows. All of the Ely Young Band and Juan Gabriel gear. Currently doing a mini-tour with Rockin Road To Dublin. That's all I can think of right now.

That's my kind of load! Were you able to see any of the shows? Are you on retainer? I've always been curious how this industry worked. I would take a pay cut to see live music for free!

When I am on tour, I have an all access "crew" pass. I try to rest after load in (usually in the morning) then get up in time to catch the show, eat and get ready for load out (right after the show) then drive to the next venue and repeat.

With the festivals and one off shows, we usually have to get unloaded then disappear so other trucks can come in. In those cases we can catch the show if we buy tickets. Not worth it for me, I rest.

There are several companies doing this kind of stuff but be warned, it is the hardest most mentally challenging thing I have ever done. Definitely not all fun and partying because drivers have to roll as soon as we are loaded. Then again, it is also the most satisfying thing I have ever done.

I used to work at a venue here in MA, and I would watch the trucks and buses back up down a hill, under a bridge, then back into where all the equipment was unloaded. It was pretty gnarly. Even worse for festival shows like ozzfest or lollapalooza.

Oh yeah. There are some venues where the driver must have a spotter with a hand held radio to back them in. Especially in the NorthEast.
