If I get the official driving record from thr Kentucky Division of Licensing is it the same record trucking companies will get when they do their background check on me? I got a speeding ticket in Tennessee a couple of years ago but it does'nt show on my official record. In searching the internet it appears that Tennesse is one of the 5 or so States that does'nt share some information with other States. I am not trying to hide anything and this is the only blemish onmy record but I can't even remember how much over the limit it was written for.

You asked this question before - and it was ANSWERED.

Call Tennessee DMV and get a copy of your record there.

Whether it will show up on a "pull" from a trucking company is anybodies guess. There is no such thing as a "50 State MVR Pull". Each state charges $$'s for an MVR pull (from $10-$40) and I doubt a trucking company (or their insurance company) is going to spend $2K to check them all. They will (typically) only check states that you have been licensed or residence in.

But stranger things have happened.

I have a speeding ticket in Osceola Country Florida - old one - that shows up on my DAC as a "criminal offense", even though it's 75/55 - not even a criminal offense.

But when you do your app - you DO WANT TO DISCLOSE - in case is does somehow, show up somewhere - and you DO WANT TO KNOW THE PARTICULARS (offense, speed, disposition) for the app also.

Chances are - unless it was a SERIOUS ONE (15 MPH over the limit), it will not affect your ability to get a hire - especially if it was you ONLY CITATION in recent history.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

For anyone with knowledge on the hiring process: as a new driver, are you required to disclose a speeding ticket you received that was dismissed?

So here's the process. Depending on the company usually determines how indepth they go as far as your background. Some company's do it better than others. I can only go by my company and say they are very thourough. In fact in the safety meeting this week they explained they have signed up to a new system that not only checks drivers licenses of new hirers it also monitors there already hired drivers as well. If your license gets suspended for child support or out of date med card they will know. My advise to you is to be as honest about your drivers license as you can. It doesn't pay to miss a citation and be sent home from orientation for lying on your application. If you fail to put something on your application at Prime they will send you home on your own dime.
