Hi,

My name is Stephen, and i am not sure how to get my career started in my current circumstance. To start with I am half way through my CDL schooling. I have good marks and zero citations on my 7 year mvr. Now the bad, I am a convicted felon. Granted it was back in 2002. I also had my C license suspended for Child support. It was suspended in 2012 Oct. and reinstated 2015 Feb. I had no idea it was suspended untill I went to get my MVR because back in '12 I contacted child support and they said if i had yet to receive anything from DDS then my license was fine. This was a lie. Now I am not sure how/where to start my career, or if it is even possible. Any feedback is appreciated and thankyou ahead of time.

(I was refered here by one of my instructors)

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

My drivers license was just reinstated last week from a child support suspension and I leave the 28th this Saturday for crst in cedar rapids Iowa to start my training.... That felony should be old enough to get started... I would apply to all the trucking companies and see what they say.. You can fill out one and send it to as many companies as you want on this site here is the link to do that Apply For Truck Driving Jobs...
