Oh, Seger and Petty are made for trucking. And I"m sorry Heavy, metal and driving for me just doesn't work. It's all about settling into a groove for me, cruising and relaxing. Listening to Cannibal Corpse or some of the other stuff I listened to in high school would probably just make me wanna use my truck as a battering ram the first time I got cut off by a UPSF or Fed Ex Freight driver.
I'm a Big Pink Floyd Fan,lately I've been playing Roger Water's-Goodbye Mr Floyd album. One long track...don't hit the back button or you will need to listen to the whole 1 hour track to hear your song again. Anyone who likes Floyd should check out the track.

Yes! Listening to "Shine on you crazy diamond...." heading out of NYC. It was sublime. I love Floyd.
Cruising through Idaho listening to the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band album "Trouble is..." Mountains, a little stormy and some blues. Yeah, that'll work.

My road Floyd is the album Meddle, and Dark Side of the Moon. Those put my mind in really good places.
I had to come 600 miles to Denver for winter simulator training ( why didn't they just come ride with me for half a day?). So I've got Segers " get out of Denver "all dialed up for my run out of here in the AM.
You know, I think I've fooled myself into thinking that it's a great place! Seriously though, it's not that bad. It's called the Garden State for a reason. NJ is pretty diverse. There are some beautiful parts of the state.
You mean this is not true????
Early morning heading to Billings one time East Bound and Down came on the radio... On the way back I got to hear Roll On by Alabama and 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses.
See that's the thing 6string. Metal does relax me. Funny thing is I can either get all crazy and wound up listening to it or I can go into Zen mode Depending on the album I select. if I want crazy I reach for Kill em all. If I want peace and serenity ,And justice for all or Believe from disturbed all work extremely well for me.

I hear ya. I think I got old and soft, maybe a bit crotchety. I used to really love hard music - Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, Biohazard, and of course Metallica. Metal or hardcore, didn't matter. Nowadays? I can't do it anymore. I was with a trainer that listened to one of the more modern metal bands, and I couldn't take it. He said it put him in 'the zone.' I'll take Elton John.

I have a designated run into Jersey City every night, with the option to pick up in NYC, Connecticut, Delaware or PA on the way back to the terminal. If you get used to driving in Jersey City or the 5 boroughs of NYC, and become familiar with the Expressways and all the ways to get to the same place, then going somewhere else seems like a cake drive. It's actually a sense of accomplishment.
Back to the music. I'm a musician and a music lover. Fun enough, I used to play more than I listened to music. Now that I 'retired' from playing professionally, and drive a truck, I listen to more music. Jazz is perfect for night driving, along with a thermos of coffee - very serene. And I'll listen to classic rock on any occasion - Rolling Stones is always on tap. I know the thread as about pairing, but I like classic rock anytime. Nineties grunge is good. Eighties music is nostalgic for me. Classic country - not this crap they call country music nowadays - goes with driving like PB&J.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
