You don't have to have your permit, but its recommended and will relieve some stress already having it. Your first week is classroom type stuff. After that you go out with a trainer. They will loan you $200 per week and you pay back what you use via payroll deduction once you start making money. Then you come back and test out with your cdl. Then you are hired and go back out with a trainer making $600 per week or .12 cents per mile whichever is higher. Once that is over you get a truck and go.

There's a few drivers for Prime on here that can probably give more details. I'm starting there around August.

Brian,

I currently drive for Prime and did go through their training program. You do get $200/wk advance while you are out with an instructor to get the experience needed to test out & get your CDL. The average time for this is about 2 - 3 weeks. It is advised to have your permit before you go to Springfield MO for your orientation.

Once you have your CDL, you go out with a trainer until you have 30,000 miles or more (depending on how things work out), then you go back to Springfield for a driving test & upgrade to being a Solo driver & issued a truck.

The advance you got while you were training to test for your CDL once you are hired, is taken out at $25/wk until the amount you used is paid back. You are paid .12/mile or $600/wk, whichever is greater during the second phase of your training.

Any other questions about Prime, let me know and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Ernie

Eddie, I don't know about this "my permit won't transfer" business. If you read that online then disregard it. Instead, I would call a recruiter and talk to them about it. If it's true that it won't transfer then just study like crazy before you get there to ensure you'll pass the written tests when you get there.

If the recruiter says that it will transfer then just come in with your NY permit. You could also call your local DMV and ask if it's possible for your permit to transfer.

You want to check with valid sources, who knows there could be something you/I don't know. It is NY after all!
