I enjoy having a beer before shutting my eyes for the night. Does that go away or are you allowed to have a couple in a cooler inside your cab in a company owned truck? I would imagine they would be pretty strict about this but I am curious.. it definitely will not be a deal breaker as I am looking to get my CDL this spring, haha.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Celadon has a 1 strike policy for any alcohol in their trucks.

You cannot have alcohol on your truck. If you are caught, you can pretty much say goodbye to your CDL. And stepping over to a bar before your 10 hour break isn't a good idea either, since if you are tested and any alcohol is in your system (even well below DWI status), you'll be OOS for 24 hours, and many companies will fire you for that.

Most drivers I know won't drink if it's within 24 hours of driving, and only do so on a 34 hour reset at home. I know I won't have a beer if I know I'm going to be on the truck within 24 hours, even if I'm parked for a reset.

Trucking isn't tolerant of any kind of impairment (including while driving your personal vehicle), and for good reason. One mistake and you could kill someone very easily. Better to plan on not enjoying any brew unless you're at home for a couple days.

DWI:

Driving While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

It will just make those days off even more enjoyable!

Have you ever stubbed your toe? tripped in the dark? said something you wish you hadn't... people do this everyday without having to drink anything.

Imagine you drank 1 fat tire went to bed woke up pulled out without using your blinker and get pulled over. you forgot to toss the bottle out and you blow a .01

is it worth it?
