The wife and I are looking into doing teamwork. I have 20 years experience driving truck, but haven't had my CDL for a little over 12 years. My wife is about to start her CDL training at a local school. We should both be road ready in a couple of months.
There are a few things we are looking for in a company and was hoping someone here could help.
1) Will allow me to train my wife. (Being I have no recent exp. - probably after my own refresher training is completed)
2) Will give us as many miles as we could drive. (Looking for at least 5500 miles per week - prefer coast to coast/long haul)
3) Decent pay scale. (With no recent exp and the wife having none, I don't expect top pay)
4) Newer equipment with "team friendly" sleepers. (We don't want to live in a shoe box - 80" - 86" sleeper minimum)
5) My preference would be tanker, but dry box or reefer are okay. (I drove dry box and reefer - local, line haul and otr)
Home time is not important, the truck will be home. We currently live in NY state, but have no obligations here. We have clean criminal and driving records. Basically, we just want a decent company that gives you all the miles you can handle and doesn't try to take advantage of you.
I know it's a pretty tall order, but any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Paolo

OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Line Haul:
Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.
LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.
