What are the best labor trucking jobs that pay well? I am currently a otr driver. I do not want to quit trucking. I would like a job that I get out of the truck frequently and work hard also getting paid well for my manpower.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Well it depends on how often you'd like to get home. If you want to stay otr then it sounds like flatbed is where it's at for you. If you want to be home every night there are a ton of local delivery jobs where you would unload the truck at each stop. Places like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Frito Lay, and Sysco Foods just to name a few. Tons of local delivery jobs like that. You'll work super hard but you'll make good money and be home a lot.

I think working for one of those local companys you named above I would really enjoy. Thanks for the advice.

HOS:

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I worked for Sygma Network (a Sysco owned company) for a year straight out of truck school. You unload the whole trailer thru a side door down a ramp with a hand truck. I delivered restaurants at night when they were closed, had keys and alarm code. I had 2 days off a week and spent one layover at home. When you layover on the road they put you up in hotels. Made $55k gross my first year out of truck school.

Another truck/delivery service is McLane. The delivery to convenience stores, restaurants/ fast food and markets. I have run C-stores and I was always impressed with my McLane delivery drivers: always cheerful, professional and energetic.
