Well, after breezing thru truck driver school, with the help of the High Road Training Program, I am in my hotel room in Green Bay awaiting orientation tomorrow. I'm very eager to get going with this, and am still a little shocked that it's really happening. So, wish me luck! If anyone has any good advice, I'm all ears. Thanks TruckingTruth!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I am in Schneider bulk, i am picking up my truck tomorrow in savannah. the only advice i can give is learn trip planning really well. It's how we get our next load. if you can't trip plan well you will sit more. they make orientation kinda fun, it will be busy and go by quickly. I made friends with 4 other from my class and we text about every day. We are still helping each other and that is nice. have fun

Go get em Ryan!

Just remember to keep a great attitude and do anything they ask you to do with a smile. You're being tested and evaluated every moment you're there. Avoid the complainers, work together with the people who seem seriously about making a great career for themselves, and enjoy it all you can.

And make sure you keep us posted!

After a little bit of stress yesterday, I got my driver number today! I got really great remarks from my instructor as well. So far, I feel really great about the way things are going here at Schneider. I'll keep ya posted!
