I never even heard of them to tell you the truth.
I've seen their units, primarily Tennessee and south but have never spoken with a driver or read up on them.
So, from what I've been reading, they look to be a pretty darn good company. Maybe a couple hundred units and all the staff from fleet managers and dispatchers to the owner are former drivers and motivated to getting miles yet knowing who drivers are and not getting lost in the mix. I'm not sure of current requirements but a post from a while back said they require 2 years of experience. It may have changed though.
Operating While Intoxicated
I recently saw an ad for Helwig. Anyone work for them? Any reviews?
They are an awesome company! I worked with them for about 2 years. I ran my tail off lol and made some serious money! They are a small company, most of their loads are meat loads, time sensitive cannot be late! They take care of their drivers. They have good insurance and some of the best pay in the industry. Pretty much their motto is "don't have a wreck and don't be late" :D They are serious about trucking. Oh sorry they are in Texas right off I-20 one exit down from the loves just before you get into Rockwall. They have awesome equipment (trucks and trailers) and a top notch maintenance program. I think you may have to have 1 year experience not sure though call them and ask. It may only be 6 months... Not sure if Jennifer is still working in recruiting. it's been a long time since I worked for them. One thing I am positive about: you cannot go wrong with Helwig and Sons. They are a great company.
I used to work for TransAm. TransAM bought out their operation a few years ago. Helwig waited a while, then started again fresh. They are a refrigerated outfit. They mostly take meat loads out of Texas up the the Northeast, backhaul with dry loads.
I have heard they want a year or more of experience, pay 40 cpm. Drivers I have talked to say it really comes down to who your driver manager is, if you will have a good experience with them or not. Can end up sitting a day or more waiting for a load at the meat plant, then a day or more waiting to get your backhaul assignment.
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
Just so you know they now have cameras facing out and ON the driver and its one year experience. 3 weeks out 3 days home....
