I'm Almost 21

Okay, so let me give you a brief rundown of my situation. I've already started the CDL training program on this site, I'm 41% through it. I've mostly been working on that and haven't spent a lot of time decided on a school or a company yet. I'll be turning 21 at the end of July. Could I start apply for companies now? or do I have to wait until I'm actually 21? I'd like to head off to a CDL school as soon as I can once I turn 21. Also I have more than enough money saved up to pay for a school so the only thing holding me back right now is my age.

Thanks, James

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.

James, I'm 21 right now and was in the exact same situation as you.

I know that when I talked to Central recruiter they told me I can get the school started 1 week before my 21st birthday. This week was all paperwork and classroom work so you could be 20. I know some companies perhaps have a different process. But the only way you'll get a true 110% answer is by calling a recruiter. I started school about a week after my 21st birthday. I wanted to enjoy my birthday first, in other words, get drunk off of Mikes Hard Lemonade (gotta love being a lightweight)

You're in a great situation. You have the money, which I didn't. I survived off of a 6" subway sandwich as my only meal off he day. So be grateful for that and hold onto it. And secondly you have a little over a month to complete your High Road CDL testing. Be sure to study up right now. You'll be surprised how much it helps you. The rest of the class was pulling their own hair out from being overwhelmed meanwhile I was on cruise control.
