Monday morning I will be boarding the bus heading to ATL for Schneider orientation and training.

The next couple of days are going to fly by and that bus ride is going to suck but in the end it will be worth it.

Any tips for training besides good attitude?

Also noticed you went to TDI Milton as well, I just finished on the 3rd of April.

The attitude can make ALL the difference. You are still interviewing for the job all the way through Orientation. Although they need you, they can drop you too if you've got a bad attitude. See skills can be trained, attitude is something no instruction will cure. Keep in mind your TDI training was primarily just to get you your CDL. Those day cab single axle trucks are easier to maneuver than sleeper cabs. However, the trucks we drive out here shift easier & turn much better than what you drove @ school. Be patient, pick a good company that fits your needs and stick to your commitment. Willie @ TDI said I was a good student. I'm telling you I couldn't shift worth a crap. But the attitude was the difference. Today I can shift, back, trip plan etc. not perfect but getting the job done.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Day Cab:

A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Everybody at the school was well aware that you were taught enough to pass the CDL test.

Skills were the hardest part for me. Turning opposite to where you want the trailer to go was/is the hardest to wrap my head around but I know it will come, just have to relax and take my time.
