Congrats man. I knew you could do it. I test August 6th. Hopefully, I will be writing the same thing you are. Do you have any idea who you will be working for yet?

Thanks BuckeyeCowboy. I am sure you will do fine. I have a few pre hires from USXpress, Roehl, Werner, Mcelroy and another one I can't think of right now. I am trying to decide between Mcelroy, Averitt and USXpress. I want Averitt but I am waiting to hear back from them. Mcelroy would be my second and USXpress my third choices. I do not think the others would be a good match for me.
I hope I will nail one down by Tuesday so I can get my ducks in a row before I roll.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Hey congrats!!! That's awesome!!!
Hey, don't wait on companies to call you back - call them yourself. Believe me, they're happy to hear from drivers. Most recruiters get paid a commission so if you show a genuine interest they're far more willing to work with you. So keep calling and get them to work on your application.
Congratulations! I've been so busy lately I have had to be pretty selective about the threads that I respond to, but that doesn't mean I haven't been following along with all you guys. I'm really excited for you and agree with Brett's comment about calling recruiters back. Those guys are extremely busy and it's easy for them to not get to everything. But they actually appreciate it when you rattle their chain, just tell them you had an application in and you want to check on the status of it. I promise you that will get some results.

Thanks Brett and Old School!
Mcelroy is out. It is down to Averitt and USXpress. I have a phone interview with Averitt on Wednesday and USXpress is already a go if I decide to roll with them. Fingers crossed for Averitt...
Averitt Express here I come! Start orientation Monday the 5th. I am excited and a bit nervous. From all of the info I have read on all of the companies, this seems to be my best match. Whew.
Thanks again to Brett and all of the contributors to this site. I will try to share my experience as much as possible.
Hey congrats - that's awesome!!!
Looking forward to hearing how you like it over there

Thanks Brett. I will definitely report back here to add to the already awesome amount of info available.
Well, orientation eve. I am getting ready to jump into the Jeep and head to Cookeville, TN. (only about 2.5 hrs from home). Weird, I am not nervous anymore. I have gone over my packet a few times, double and triple checked that I have everything, and now, blah. At least I know I will be driving there on an absolutely beautiful day.

Wk. 3, Day 5: PASS! I am the proud recipient of a Class A CDL
What an experience. For the PTI we were either going to be given a section of the tractor and/or trailer or the entire combination. Guess what I got... Yep, I was the one who drew the long straw (long straw? Hell yeah, I have been practicing doing the PTI from passenger side engine compartment to rear of trailer for two weeks!) which made it flow like a lazy river, smooth.
The backing exercises were pretty easy but the driving was a bit challenging because the tester was not only looking at control, he was also seeing if I was aware of my surroundings, which I was.
I have to give credit to everyone involved in the training program here. I began this knowing absolutely nothing about trucking and went in with enough knowledge to quickly settle in to class. I will no doubt be using the info here to help me along as my training progresses.
