Just completed my first week of CDL A school training at Celadon in Indy. I received my CDL permit on Thursday. I arrived in Indy last Sunday after a smooth 21 hours Greyhound bus trip from Connecticut. No delays and met some cool future classmates during the trip. Fortunately, upon my arrival at Celadon, I received a dorm room upon arrival. Didn't have to go to local hotel, some people don't mind the hotel though. Dorm rooms are descent; your own room, bed, dresser, desk, and flat screen TV. Laundry rooms on every floor (not free), bathrooms are shared and cleaned daily by local staff. Meals served three times a day. Classes are 8-5 Mon-Fri.
One piece of advice for anyone considering or coming to Celadon in Indy. Please take the TT High Road training program or study the Indiana Study guide prior to arrival here. You only have two days to prepare for your exams in class. You begin testing on Wednesdays. You must pass the Indiana Operator's License, General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination, and Tankers(Yes, to work at Celadon you must have Tanker endorsement). If your a Indiana resident, you don't have to take Indiana Operator's test. All tests are paid for by Celadon. You have two weeks or 16 days to complete exams or Celadon will issued a bus ticket back to your home of origin.
One cool thing here is the students get to meet the Chairman and founding CEO of Celadon Steve Russell during first week of class. He speaks to every class every week here in Indy. He's straight forward and no nonsense individual. He's nicknamed by the students "The Godfather", he speaks and sounds just like Marlon Brando in the movie "The Godfather." Lol. Interesting, he left Brooklyn, NY and picked one of worst neighborhoods in America(East Indianapolis) to start Celadon in 1985 and is building an Empire. He made over 800 million dollars in revenue last year and Wall Street is very happy with him, lol.
Thanks Brett and TT family for your knowledge, wisdom, and great website. I will keep touch and updated in following weeks. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
