I dont subscribe to this fascist BS and never will.....says the guy who has had a background check done, drug tests, employment checks, credit checks, driving background checks, driving tests, written tests, DOT physicals, and (if you have or want a Hazmat endorsement) fingerprinting and a Federal background check, agrees to random drug screens and can be pulled over and have his truck searched without provocation.
I had to take a breath before continuing. You also carry a camera, microphone, GPS chip, accelerometer, and gyroscope in your pocket for the government to monitor and every building and intersection you enter puts you on yet another camera. You also have computers throughout the truck tracking your location, driving speed, braking force, engine RPMs, and idle time and reporting it in real time to your company, their insurance company, and a third party monitoring company.
But you're right - you ain't fallin for no fascist BS. You're large and in charge! You're a true rebel and this world isn't going to get away with monitoring you, d*mnit! You're a true inspiration to us all. You've really bucked the system and proven that nobody pushes you around.
I'm sorry. I know you think you're a rebel with a cause and you're taking a stand but you've jumped through every hoop that the rest of us have jumped through and you'll continue to if you want to drive a big rig for a living. If you think quitting a company because they're going to use a dash cam is going to help you in any way I'd love to know what that way is in your mind.
Don't forget about every retail outlet! Camer's outside watching you, all the way to the inside, and finally stopping at the bathroom (the last frontier)!
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Seriously wonder about you all sitting there moaning and groaning about a little camera that they have yet to even put in your truck. Its 6 months away. We have military and police that spend there lives on camera or worse give their lives on camera so you can have a choice so you can voice that choice and this is how you choose to voice it. Stop for a moment and think of all those people in Baltimore right now. ON CAMERA doing their job long after their 9-5 was over getting hurt. And all of you throw a fit because your lifestyle might get interrupted because they stick a camera in your truck. Well ill tell you I have been fighting for over a month to get my medical clearances and if they want to put a camera in my face to protect me against some idiot driver go for it. Will just force me to become a better driver. I hope you all stop this bullsh t about a stupid camera when we spend our lives on camera what the heck is one more? Hope you stop and pray for Baltimore too those cops have given there all on camera while they should have been at home but instead fight for us. And vets are no different both my parents were vets!
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Are you getting any type of compensation for recruiting and or promoting trucking Brett?
Attila I find your insinuation insulting. Everyone should know that web sights, even this one needs to have an income stream. That being said, thinking that Brett is being influenced by any company is stupid. I believe Brett has new drivers best interest at heart when he speaks his opinion. If he was under influence of any companies than why would he be so against leasing or owning a truck through them? That's a main revenue stream for companies. Don't change the subject around I believe he is speaking his mind when he says things in his posts. You may not agree with his opinion but at least understand it's content.

You have an incredible amount of nerve asking me about my private business affairs when you won't even tolerate being monitored as someone else's paid employee. What an amazing hypocrite you are, demanding privacy in one sentence and then publicly asking for inside details about the inner workings of someone else's business affairs in the next. I'm appalled, but not surprised.
But the answer is no, I do not get paid for anything I'm saying. The information I put on this website is put there for free to help people prepare for a career in trucking and make good decisions for themselves. The opinions I give are given for free in order to help people get the perspective of someone with 15 years of driving experience. I don't have any hidden agendas and I've never had any hidden agendas.

That's exactly what I'm saying.....what's one more? And besides, you're a paid employee. They have every right to monitor you while you're doing your job.
I think I've about had my fill of this discussion. I don't know what else there is to say. You're on camera all day, every day. Your truck is monitored. There's a cell phone in your pocket. Your argument about wanting privacy holds no water. It's foolish.
If you want to say, "Hey, putting a camera right in my face makes me feel uncomfortable." That's perfectly fine. It makes me feel uncomfortable too because I'm not used to it. But to cry foul because they're invading your privacy holds no merit.

Here is a fascinating quote:
"We have military and police that spend there lives on camera or worse give their lives on camera so you can have a choice so you can voice that choice and this is how you choose to voice it."
When you take this job what is the first thing you do when accepting it? That's right swear your oath and give up many of your rights to.....The government. Truck drivers don't do this. With you guys getting upset at the people who are upset, is the perfect government response given in the fascism that is rapidly taking over our civil rights in this country. "What's one more?" I'll tell you what it is, the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. You have to realize it doesn't end with this. It's going to keep getting worse until enough people say "enough!"
It would be great to be able to discuss a topic without attacking someone's character. If you have to resort to belittling someone to make a point..
It's a debate, allow others to have their own opinion.

Governemt - Public sector Trucking - Private sector
Somehow, somewhere, someway: Someone in this thread tried comparing apples to oranges.
I was unaware that a private business, wishing to remove employees in violation of the law (via camera), was a "public sector" employee.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Say 'enough' and then do what about it? Eliminate technology? You gonna drop the satellites out of orbit? You going to remove the cameras and microphones from cell phones and destroy the wireless networks? You gonna destroy all forms of payment other than cash?
Or are you just going to say, "Well, I refuse to have this one particular camera filming me while I'm working but I'll still pay for things with credit cards, I'll still carry a cell phone in my pocket, and I'll still be willing to go out in public and get filmed on hundreds of cameras everywhere I go. I just don't want this one particular camera on me."
Heck, you even have your name and a picture of yourself on this website which will get over 4 million visits in 2015. So I'm not really seeing anyone make an earnest attempt at living with any level of real privacy. I see people willingly make themselves very public and easy to see, hear, and follow all the time anyhow. So what's the difference? Why pretend you care deeply about having privacy when clearly you don't care? And unless you plan on eliminating electricity and all electronics there's no going backward toward more privacy. That battle was lost years ago.

No, but we're responsible for doing an extremely dangerous job that puts the lives of the general public in danger. When one of us screws up we have to answer for that. It's a responsibility we all accept and along with that responsibility comes a high level of monitoring.
What do you propose we do to make sure truck drivers are doing their job properly...use the honor system? As long as you haven't killed anyone you don't need to be monitored?
Listen, I live in the middle of nowhere by myself. My entire life revolves around having solitude. I love it. But there's simply no hiding when you're surrounded by modern technology.
Duct tape and hammers are a drivers best friend. If everyone does it nobody can stop it.
Quoted from a old trucker.
Thx for answering the question, I didn't think you did and belive you. I also think you have new drivers interest at heart.
