The inmates seem to have taken over the Asylum on this one my friends.... take cover.

Some people find it hard to have a conversation with someone they don't agree with without it turning into a personal name-calling kinda thing. This conversation was a good one with a lot of interesting points but a few tantrums thrown in unfortunately.

I still think the main cause of fear is that some people have the impression that a trucking company can clear themselves of wrongdoing if their driver causes a wreck. They think the company is going to look at the camera and say, "See! It was the driver's fault. We shouldn't take the blame for this. Blame him!"

But that's not how it works. The liability for everything that happens to a company truck falls upon the company itself. That doesn't mean the driver can't also be convicted of wrongdoing if he did something egregious. But the company doesn't walk away without punishment. They are liable for anyone they put in the truck. Why do you think they've developed the CSA system to track inspections, tickets, and accidents? Why do you think a company's score drops when their drivers screw up? Because ultimately the company is responsible for the drivers they hire and what those drivers do behind the wheel.

So don't think that the company is putting a camera in the truck to put the blame on the driver and take the blame off themselves. They're doing everything they can to protect themselves which means not only identifying drivers that are putting the company at risk, but also proving that the driver was doing his job properly when an accident occurred.

If you were cruising down the road, and a car pulled out in front of you and you hit it from behind you would automatically be at fault until proven otherwise. Even with a dash cam the person might be able to argue that if the truck driver was paying attention he could have gotten stopped in time. Combine that with a driver cam showing that the driver was indeed paying full attention at the time and now you have a much clearer defense.

Thanks for clearing that up. It is a big concern of mine but it also makes sense that if something goes wrong out here both the driver and company are in the same boat.

Best post: This is America. Quit your job, because others will happily take it. And uhh, I heard In-n-Out is hiring. You might wanna look into that.

In and Out is highly regarded as a great company to work for as a trucker. I have spoken with a few drivers with that Co. and they are happy. I have also looked into employment with them.

Here's my idea to this thing. The cameras can easily be set up to activate upon the driver 1) sitting in the seat, 2) putting his seatbelt on.Having these little micro switches hooked to power "ON" the camera. So it's only "ON" per-se, while the truck is in motion, period! There, is no recording of you personal activities, while NOT Driving, off/duty, S/B. Nissan, and other make forklifts, have these "safety" micro switches, so the lift's will not operate period, without activating the switches

What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a molehill. A molehill. Some people think this is a career changing mountain they refuse to get over.

Technology is allowing authorities to get more invasive. Ask face-recognition programmer Atilla. A few moments ago (April10, around 7pm Central time) a new video came out from Swift's HQ. Victor says only 41% have seen the "dash cam" video. He clarifies the camera only remembers the "last" 10-20 seconds of any given moment.

There's no spy cam. The recording is saved when there's an incident, or when the DRIVER pushes a "save" button. There is no live streaming back to the Big House. I'm sure they can upload a given truck video, but it won't be like having a security guard sitting behind you all the time.

Molehill. Not a mountain. Something you can get over, so get over it!

Check out this letter I got. Or maybe my other personality sent it to me. I hate to admit it but Errol put it best " molehill".

Dear driver, I have been asked to help you and your company protect yourselves from fraudulent insurance claims.

I understand why a lot of people don't like me as I never lie. I hope we can be friends because I really am here to help you. Think of me like you would a firearm. It's better to have me and never need me than to need me and not have me.

Together we could potentially change the driving industry for the better. Think of where those millions of dollars your companys pay in insurance premiums could be better used. That's right, in the CEO's pocket. But maybe just maybe you might get a small piece of the savings too.

Please allow me to put it another way. If 10 seconds of my footage could save your job, why would you not welcome my assistance? Not just your job I can save either. Vehicular manslaughter is a very serious crime. That's right I could potentially help keep you out of prison.

On the other hand I also could do the exact opposite of both those previous two examples. Think about it thought, if I could prove a driver was at fault who happen to run over one of your loved ones wouldn't you want my help then as well?

Make no mistake about it, I am coming.

You friend, DASHCAM

It has been awhile since I have been on the forums. My company runs dashcams and while I was skeptical at first, it doesn't bother me now. Sure my dispatcher calls me every once in awhile when the cam is triggered and has his little talk with me to satisfy safety. You still have your privacy in SB, just have to pull window curtains and camera is covered. They have saved my company millions of dollars and caught numerous drivers with phone in hand. You just have to remember that it captures 14 secs before critical event. But the funny part is that it was not triggered in Connecticut when a Werner driver tried to make a U-turn in the parking lot and tailswing caught my truck along with another truck that also had a camera. Neither camera went off and the Werner guy hauled tail out of there. If you are doing your job as a driver and being safe, then the camera shouldn't bother you. My company probably has more safety equipment than most, and the camera is last on the list of dislikes.

So, assuming this is 100% accurate and true. If every person were to memorize and integrate these words into every conversation every day, the NSA would be so bogged down they would have no choice but to but back on their monitoring?
