Non cdl is going to limit you to a straight truck and some companies want a Class B but you can drive on a Chauffeur. You still have to drug test, take a DOT physical (although not as extensive as the CDL) and you're governed by the same DOT laws and Hours of Service regulations. Unless you run local within 150 miles of your home base, then the HOS don't apply.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
How can I find training for a straight truck other than going through CDL school? The company I am applying with will not train.
