Age, height, weight won't be a problem. I did not go through Swift's training program so I do not know if they have any special requirements. I can not stress how important it is to study before you arrive. 3 weeks very fast. Most programs require you to be able to get your permit within the first 3 days or so. After that you have a pre-trip and any other tests your company requires. I would suggest you study the training information on this site and know it or get your permit before you attend school. Again nothing you said makes me think you can not be successful.
Just do it!
Find out what the requirements are before hand, focus and do what it takes to get what you want. The very same thing you've done time and time again as a woman in the workforce.
Example- when I applied to Schneider Bulk, they required a physical agility test. Cool no problem...What EXACTLY does that entail? Got the info, did what I needed to do, and got it done! That's what we do as women..... get it done!

Thank you for your advice and encouragement, it's helped me more than you know. Ann

Hello Ladies- I'm 58, recently laid off and looking for a new career. The thought of driving OTR appeals to me although I'm finding there's a lot more to it than I thought - I have to say I'm a little scared - no, terrified - but still definitely interested. Anyway, I would appreciate any advice you could give but especially relating to being a woman trucker. I have contacted Swift and will probably go through with their 3 week course but I need to be sure before I make the commitment so please help if you can.
Is there a height requirement? What about body strength? Is it important to know about engines and how they work?
Thank you. I appreciate your help. Annee
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
