Thanks for your responses and that you didn't say I was crazy undertaking this at 59. This has always been in my heart, and I have to act on it.

I am 58 and into the first week of my CDL training. If you're going crazy, then I want to go with you! Old guys rule!

There are four persons over the age of 50 in CRST in Oklahoma City right now. Only one is a previous commercial driver.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Urea can be considered a fertilizer, so don't feel bad when you fertilize some roadside. Cows do it all the time.

I raise two steers every year and I can vouche for that. In fact, they'll fertilize your boots too!

I would really like to thank you for your replies which have so much settled the grey matter beta waves or in my case I should say gristle matter. Thanks again, happy trails to you in the words of Roy Rogers

Oh you guys have nothing to worry about. The average age of truckers nationwide is in the mid-to-upper 40's. So you'll fit in perfectly. I was 21 when I started and man did I stick out like a sore thumb. It never dawned on me to even wonder what the average age of drivers was at the time. Turned out it was my dad's age and everyone let me know it.

"Hey, does your dad know you're driving his truck?"

"Hey, don't you have to be back in school pretty soon? Summer is almost over"

I heard it every single day on the CB but I didn't mind a bit of course.
