Have you had a sleep study. Some of the companies are requiring a sleep study for overweight employees? Maybe extra chargers. I use the usb ones and plan on bringing 3 cables and 2 of each wall/car charger those things like to short. If you have room extra underwear is a good idea. You can manage to wear you shirts and pants extra days but not some much on socks and from what I seen its not always easy to get to a wash machine.

Hey Barbara, thanks for the reply. I haven't had one done yet. I will get that done at Prime. They cover that cost and if needed they front the cost of a CPAP and then payroll deduct it. I can't afford to do the sleep study on my own dime. I appreciate the advice. Some extra chargers would probably be smart. As would the socks and underwear. Thanks again!
CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.
You can being your dot certificate long form if you like...But prime is going to do their own physical and issue their own certificate. I had mine done just two weeks before going and they didn't care. So be prepared for that which happens on day 1.
At 450 you're probably going to get a bottom bunk. And please, I don't want to sound harsh but if I were your trainer, I wouldn't trust the capabilities of the top bunk sleeping under it. It's a rough climb on those things, there's no ladder.
You're probably not going to need towels. The motel at Prime's campus had them with daily maid service, every truck stop has them. I'd recommend shower shoes. There's some nasty mofos out here, I wouldn't put my bare feet on a truck stop shower. If you don't use shower shoes, go ahead and get some athletes foot cream or spray, you'll need it. While you're at it, grab a small bottle of hand sanitizer. You'll be glad to have it. Again...nasty mofos.
Let me give you another helpful tip. If you can get your hands on a back brace and icy hot/Bengay and aleive, you may be thankful. You're body is going to go through a hell of an adjustment sitting in one place for hours a day and getting constant vibrations from the truck. Some people never have problems. I did. The above mentioned items saved me big time from discomfort. I wouldn't spend money on them yet, you can get them at Wal-Mart along the way if need be.
Other than that it sounds like you're prepared! Good luck in your endeavors!

Hey Terry, aren't you becoming a PSD Instructor? You should consider training Jason.
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Baby wipes are a must have, especially for flatbed, we get dirty and sweaty and don't always have access to running water.

They be good for "wiping" other parts of the anatomy, if you get my drift ... trucks are close in environments and you don't want to be any smellier than needs be ... just a "gentle" suggestion ...

I'd love to take a TT guy out and train. Unfortunately he's coming in two weeks after I go thru. My FM won't let me get certified and wait. He said I'd have to take a student right after I finished certifying.
I'm using a phone app so I can't see where Jason is from. I want to take a Florida/Georgia guy out to match home time.
And I say guy because my fiance strictly forbids I train a female. Yeah I know.....

Yeah that was the rule my wife gave me too. And it really sucked because there was a 21 year old attractive girl at the class who needed an instructor and as hard as it was, I had to say no.
By the way, your DM apparently never told you that you have complete control over when you take your student. That guy is clearly an ass in more ways than one, how you put up with him for a year is astonishing.

Hey everyone. So i know some of you may have seen another post of mine about a concern regarding to medications. Well, I paid to get a DOT Physical on Wednesday and passed. Got a 2 year certification and my medications are approved. I am going to give my notice to my employer today. My recruiter is going to have me starting orientation on May 18th! WOOHOO! So, now I was just wondering about my packing list.
I plan on packing the following:
Clothes/Sleeping: Shirts – 15 ( 6 short sleeve, 1 polo, 8 undershirts), Pants – 8 (4 jeans, 1 jean shorts, 2 b-ball shorts, 1 night pants), Underwear – 10, Socks – 7 pair, Footwear – 3 (1 work boots, 1 tennis shoes, 1 flip flops), Bedding – 4 (1 travel sheets [similar to sleeping bag but made with thinner sheets], 1 blanket, 2 pillows)
Hygiene products: Toothbrush/toothpaste, Soap/Scrubby, Deodorant, Razors, Towels (2), Laundry Bag
Glasses – 2 (regular and sun), Flashlight (Mag light), Work Gloves (2 pair)
Paperwork: Birth certificate, Social Security card, Voided check for direct deposit, DOT Medical Certification, Dr. Medical release letter approving my medications (saying they wont affect my driving ability)/length of treatment, $150 cash for the fees
Electronics: Laptop (charger, mouse, and batteries), Cell phone (charger – car/wall), PS Vita (and charger/grip/case), Headphones
Medications (Dr. medical release and DOT Medical Certificate), Cymbalta, Prozac, Lamictal
Notebooks, Pens, Envelopes (stamps)
Am I missing anything? Is this too much? Just not sure. Any advice for heading to Prime? I am doing the High Road Training. I can't afford to get my permit before I go I am 6'3" tall and am a heavy guy. Do the top bunks in the trucks have a weight limit (I'm 450 ). Any advice is welcome. I am really looking forward to this new adventure and beginning my trucking career!
