I have been researching diesel mechanic programs that include CDL training. I have been reading about TDDS in Lake Milton, OH and it sounds like a good program. The diesel mechanic program includes a 5 week 200 hour CDL course. Does anyone have any scoop about this program? Thanks!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I went to TDDS for truck driver training not diesel mechanics but, I stayed in the dorm which housed many of the diesel tech students. They all spoke highly of the course and said the teachers a very knowledgable. Their course did include the CDL training you mentioned. The course is a long one, I believe it's 50 weeks long.
