Well Daniel i wouldt be able to sleep either after a big can of wolf brand chili 😀
Haha!! That picture was taken a year or so ago. I was a vargan for a relatively short time. Finally found home a few months ago.
It sure is! What part are/were you at? I'm from Coeur d'Alene, probably the prettiest part :)
I'm the same as you Mr. Daniel Wolfie, I haven't really experienced the "wall" yet (thankfully). I'm a smoker too, so maybe there's something to be said for that. Not only is it a stimulant, but the blast of cold fresh air from the rolled down window certainly helps.
Also, being a flatbedder has another advantage: the mandated load checks every 3 hours or 150 miles. When running on the interstates, it usually comes about every 2-2.5 hours. Getting out of the truck even for a couple minutes, stretching your legs and getting the blood flowing is a great way to stay awake. If I wasn't pulling a flatbed I don't think I would force myself to stop otherwise...
I believe we passed through that area! I recall seeing the exit sign with a similar name, if not that one! :)

What exactly is a vargan and how does that work on the road
Probably vegan... Vegetarian.
This past Tuesday my trainer was headimg home for some home time. The day i drove from Ohio to North Carolina. Got to spend three nights i a hotel which was nice. Todah we were back on the road. I met my goal of 8hrs driving. I also drove through the blue ridge mountains and got stuck in pigeon forge traffic. My.shifting still sux but its getting better.
And now you know the rest of the story.
Wow have we been busy. Ive basically been driving eating and sleeping. Through this week i have learned how to float up but not down. I have only backed a few times. My trainer beleives is controlling ths trailer going forward before going backwards. The other day we shutdown at the vanburen terminal in arkansas. I got to hang out with my dad and spend a night in a hotel. I have learned that now matter how much/little time you have to spend with your family is a blessing amd nothing is trivial. Right now we are in Perrysburg Ohio waiting to pick up at hiens tonight at 11.
Now you know the rest of the story.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Didnt post yesterday because well i didnt drive and was still exhausted. 3 drop and hooks washington DC Traffic and didnt shut down till 130. Today though i drove backroads bypassing washington drove through most of the PA mountains. Wow what an experience my stomach has finally detatchd its self from my butthole. I was exhausting but fun. I stopped at the last sunoco rest area in PA heading toward Ohio. Trainer D said that i did pretty good. We are here in Ohio and will deliver our load in the morning.
Now you know the rest of the story
That's pretty cool! My first experience driving a rig in snow was on those mountains! Man, was that a scary morning! Just keep plugging away at it man, it gets way better. :)
Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.
In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
Well after taking my 34 in a hotel here i sit on the side of the road on I95 in Maryland with a blown trailer tire. Waiting on the mechanic to fix it.
Now you know the rest of the story.
Well Ive got somewhere around 60 hrs of drive time left and i just bumped my second dock. Today was really frustrating. Its almost like im regressing. Im grinding gears, hitting curbs, and of course frustrating my trainer and myself as well. I thougb i would be catching on better by now in traffic ibtend to panic and that is when the gears start grinding. Is this normal this late in training?
