I have been looking and talking to every place I can here in Corpus Christi Texas. And I can't find anyone to take me as a newbie! Help!!!!
Oh I do have my CDL A and all endorsements and TWIC :/
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
What companies have you applied to?
Everyone in Corpus Christi area. Today spoke with swift. I'm single so my goal is the just go over the road and do team. But my family really wanted me to do local first for safety But I really believe going over the road will give me the training I need and get me out of here :)
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Getting local fresh out of school is near impossible. Focus on going regional or otr first. Do not limit yourself to companies based out of TX either. They only need to hire from your area. That being said its a time sensitive thing with how long you have been out of school. Most companies only allow 30-60 days after you graduate your cdl program.

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Well... Swift just called and they are taking me and I'll leave out next Monday ! Yay!!!!
Hello Spirit! Hey just a thought. While you're getting into the groove with Swift, start researching where their terminals are and cross reference that with where you'd like to "live". It sounds like you wanna leave the TX fam behind, and get gone. So get gone via Swift. Then when you've outgrown Swift (which I'm sure you will) you can pick up a nicer gig in the area you'd enjoy living in! (Been there done this! ;D) Good luck girl!
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
