So to clear up the question (I'm not real fast sometimes). I smoked in the past, way past like 12-13 years ago. When that question comes up do I-
A. Lie about it and absolutely keep that fact to myself from now on or
B. Tell the truth and hope they don't hold it against me?
I'm thinking B is the correct answer but I am fully aware of how the past can bite you and sometime the truth does hurt.
Honestly idk the answer to that cause lying will get u in trouble, and apparently telling the truth will also. But if I had to do it all over again I would have told them the truth.
Ya know what? There is no "right" answer to this, but in my opinion I would lie. I would never tell them I did any drugs in the past and just keep it to myself. As long as you're clean now and you can pass the drug test, why bring that upon yourself?
In the end, it's your decision. But as long as you don't have anything in your past that would prove you've done drugs - like failed drug tests, things you've said on social sites like Facebook, or arrests on drug charges, the only way they can find out is if you tell them.
I have to agree with Brett.....What you did a cazillion years ago, was a different time and place. Good Grief !! I was a child of the 60's !!! Atleast the parts of it that I can remember thru my drug induced haze. I think everyone experimented with the taboo things when we were young and thought we were immortal. It shouldn't come back to haunt us when we have survived, grew up and got a brain....
I still say be honest especially now for one big reason. There is a paper trail now. You may get away with not disclosing what exactly went on but companies can be funny sometimes. For your next employer will want to know you left/got let go from your last job and if you tell them "violation of company policy"...well they already know that much cause it will be in your job history background. They are going to want to know what policy you violated in case it was a major violation they might want to avoid. The "Violated Company Policy" is already out there. Can't hide that. So at this point you can stick to a generic answer of "Violated Company Policy" and say nothing else which makes you seem like you are hiding something and by law you do not have to disclose what happened OR... You can just explain what really happened and hope they understand.....
Its a tough choice and one I would not want to have to make but there you go.
Now this part is strictly my opinion and nothing else. I used to be a manager for a very large company and did the hiring and firing. During job interviews I would tell people just to be honest.
I could understand mistakes like the one we are talking about here. We all make mistakes but if I felt that someone was trying to hide something that might or might not be very important the chances of me calling them back for a second interview was slim to none.
Just something to think about.

Be honest. They will ask about any illegal drugs. Just be honest. 10 to 12 years ago is a long time and most people realize that most people have done some type of drugs no matter the type. Better to know way a head of time if things are ok then you get part way into a job and things go badly for a simple slip up down the road like what happened with Rob.
Trust plays a big part in trucking when you dealing with hundred of thousands of dollars and in some cases millions of dollars of freight.
