I see a few apps and was wondering if anyone uses one? I'm hoping to find a good one for city driving in Phoenix until I learn the area. For iphone6.

Thanks!

The single biggest issue I would have with an app for my phone is that they are usually not setup to be used by a truck driver.

The closest thing I have found (and I don't use for the reason stated above) is the VZ Navigator through Verizon wireless. If I was to get a GPS for the truck (and yes I do have one) is any of the ones for trucks from Rand McNally. After checking lots of reviews and talking to other drivers, they seem to be about the best in my opinion.

I read some reviews somewhere that "Trucker Path Pro" was the best iphone app for trucker nav. I haven't had a chance to try it much yet as I am just heading to my orientation on 5/26. When I do start the app up I do see a the truck friendly stops etc. Maybe some others will chime in... Good luck in Phoenix!

I'll be starting orientation at Prime on the 26th, as well!

Looking forward to it... See you guys there.

Personally, my tech arsenal includes, in order of importance/usefulness, a Rand McNally GPS, a RM paper atlas with the weatherproof pages, Google Maps (for scouting out the layouts of shippers, receivers, and parking opportunities), and the Truckerpath app (useful for trip planning and evaluating possible parking spots.)

Personally, I love how the GPS speeds up trip planning. One of my favorite things about the RM GPS is that it will point you to the page and grid location in the atlas.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Just to throw this out as another option, CoPilot for Trucks had good reviews.

How does Trucker Path pro work for determining available parking? Satellite and automated? Does not seem practical that someone on ground is inputting data. For parking it tells whether there is parking available and gives a time span.

Trucker Path will ask you if there is parking available if you stop at one of their points of interest. I am at a TA and there was one spot left (I took it) for parking. I pulled up the App to see what was around me and it asked me how the parking situation was. This, of course, relies on driver honesty, so...

I too use the Rand Mcnally GPS, VZ Navigator and Google maps for traffic info. I have a paper Atlas for back up.

I use Trucker Path too, and I've often wondered about the whole "driver honesty" issue, particularly when I check the parking history of a certain place and see both "full" and "empty" within a few minutes of each other. I'm starting to suspect there may be some mischief-making hooligans using the app. Or maybe a driver who wants to increase his odds of finding a parking space at a certain location at the end of his day will go on there beforehand and mark it as full to deter other drivers from stopping?
