Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
There are companies who provide reasonable home time but the more time you spend off of tthe road then the less money you'll make.
I think if home time is that important to you then Regional or Local is better suited for you.

Michael J is right. On regional , they will typically get you home every week unless you want to stay out and run for more money. Just make sure you talk to a driver who is working for whatever company you are looking at to find out what their home policy actually is verses what is advertised.

I understand the need to be gone for long periods of time but is there an option of staying home longer if you prefer or do you only have 2 days off if you are not doing a slip seat option? I am going to do this but I am hoping there is more home time than 2 days off after driving for 14. Am I better off seeking a regional or dedicated route in which case I would be out for 5 days and home for 2 if that is the case? Thank you!
Dedicated Route:
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."
Regional:
