California was from date of "conviction" by courts....Don't know if it's still the same, but probably is.
I just got out of CDL school and obtained my CDL. I'll save you a little bit of time and repeating yourself to every company you will call.
Not sure if you can private message me or not but would be glad to tell you what I have went through the past four weeks of school getting lined up with jobs that WILL Hire you.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
I've learned already that I'd be wasting my time trying to pursue this before the 5 year mark.
Not true. Far from it. PLENTY of companies will hire you before the 5 year mark. One example of a mega company that will hire you before 5 years is Prime Inc. But it is true that many, many more will hire you after 5 years removed from your DUI.
Typically, companies want to start counting the clock after you served your punishment, and / or when your license was reinstated.

I'm interested in pursuing an OTR career and wondered if anyone here could clear up at what point in the court system does the 5 year rule actually start? I've learned already that I'd be wasting my time trying to pursue this before the 5 year mark. I have heard differing opinions on the matter. Some say that it is 5 years after the date of conviction and I have heard others say that it is 5 years after the actual probation period ends which is typically a year after the actual conviction. Can anyone clarify through their own experiences or knowledge? Thanks.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
