Good thinking to do a 34 hr reset Some drivers would have pushed the limit n kept fighting the recap. They burn themselves out that way. Stay safe
Is recap time the time that drops off at the end of 8th day ? Thanks for sharing as i am doing the high road training now and am on that section about extending your 14hour clock and seems to me it could be helpful at times but also i think it would be easier just to run your 14 strait through and start fresh the next day.
Yesterday I had about 10 hours left out of 70. I didn't have any recap time waiting for me today. I had driven all morning for a 7am Saturday delivery. Things must be slow since it's Memorial Weekend. Yesterday afternoon the planner sent me a load that started almost 12 hours later early Sunday morning.
I could have done it stretching my available 10 hours drive time over Sunday and Monday (using a 10 hour break), and wait for Tuesday to get 8 1/2 hours on recap. It was for a 330 mile trip. I figured I didn't want to do those time gymnastics for 300 miles, so I turned it down using a 34 hour reset for an excuse.
(New people and students: I'm writing this for you. A 34 hour stop is one way to handle your log limitations. I started solo with Swift myself four months ago.)
34 hours. One day, plus. Sitting in one truck stop. This one didn't get crowded. There's some stores nearby. Most truck stops aren't close to anything. Truck stops will charge you for WiFi. The Stop might have a driver lounge with cable TV. I've seen Stops with a barber shop! What do you do for 34 hours? Sleep will take up some time.
I have an old Lap top & tablet with movies and a few games. This weekend I've been on TT for hours adding comments. (I don't do FB, but you can!)
That's it! 34 hours of not much. Oh, BTW, my new load is a short 2-stop in Ft. Worth tonight, then 567 miles + an extra stop into Mississippi. With a full 70 hours to burn!
