Yes I been looking at getting my cdl and going to a community college. I been looking at different companies with cdl training. I am wondering about my driving record and companies that will hire me. Back in February I got in a accident during our last ice and snow storm here in Ohio. Lost control and struck a light pole( if it wasn't for my great driving skills I would have hit that pole head on, but it hit the left side of my car). Now I have fail control conviction from the sheriff. what's that considered( never had that before in my life). Is it considered reckless driving. I haven't had anything on my driving record for 10 years until now. Please can someone give some info so I can make my decision where I can go. Oh yeah I been looking at the squire program.
Thanks, Sam
That should only be a citation not a conviction, but either way I doubt highly that in a 10 year span that would be the disqualifier. Just be honest when they are asking about your driving record, because a lie will undoubtedly get you tossed before you even get to drive for most companies. As long as you were speeding when it happened you should be in the clear. That was just a life lesson about the dangers of ice on the road, it would been twice as bad had it been a truck and trailer.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
I personally had, one speeding ticket, a preventable accident, and a non preventable accident on my record when i started, and i still got pre-hires , and landed a job with a good "small" company, so i think you will be fine.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Be sure you get fully approved before going any where. I got a few things on my record and got pre hire letters but I would call the same company couple days later just to finalize everything and ask questions then get denied.
So pre hires to me are just a foot in the door at a school some schools require at least 2 pre hires. The only company that I ran into that will do a full background check before you even get down there was transam outta Olathe KS. Other bigger companies will say ya your good and then get to first day of training they will tell ya Denied then your making a trip back home and starting all over again.....
Hope I helped 😎😎
