This has been such a great learning experience for me. Im getting to do something i so enjoy and get paid for it. Ive mainly been driving but every time we get to a shipper or drop and hook i do the work. I still need to work on my backing, i have trouble figureing out the best way to set it up. But once my trainer helps me set it up im good to go. Ive driven about 1200 miles over the past 3 days and set up to do another 600 tomorrow. Its amazing how quick the miles add up. Anyone reading this prepareing should start training themselves to read all the road signs even in your car, read them get into the habit mile markers truck signs all of them. Its a valuable skill to have on the road and if its already a habit you wont have to think about it while your figuring the 8 million other things you have to do.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.
In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
Thans for the updates, Jake!

Been a couple days since i updated. Ive been really tired its amazing how tired you get just driving, ive literally just crawled into bed last night and tonight too. I drove about 450 miles today, learned how to do the mountains of wv and did my first check in with a shipper and reciever. Tomorrow i have about 10 n a half hours to do 520 miles which will be the longest strech so far. My trainer says im doing pretty good, i need to learn how to set up for the backs a little better, and the finer points of shifting but other than that all i need to learn is the Qualcomm and real world trip planning. So itll be an interesting weekend. Ill try to update the thread over the weekend but i cant promise anything lol. Drive safe everyone.

Qualcomm:
Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.
