I'm starting school tomorrow at TDI, planning on joining H. O. Wolding. Was curious how time off works (I would prefer to drive straight for a month or two at a time then take 3-5 days off at a time rather than taking 1 day off a week, is this possible?) Also wondering if there is a pet policy. I read on one website they don't on another they do. Thanks in advance

Hey, Will, I drive for Wolding - got my first truck in February. HOW is quite flexible about home time, figure out what kind of schedule you would like, talk it over with your dispatcher , and they will try to make it happen. I have been impressed by how many drivers (and office staff) have been with the company for many years, and the home policy is often mentioned as a big reason. You should have no trouble with wanting to stay out for longer periods of time.

I like the "family" feel of the company, we all wave to each other if you pass another Wolding truck out on the road. And most folks will come introduce themself if they see you at a truck stop or at a customer.

There is a pet policy, I have my dog with me! The deposit is stiff, $500 for dogs under (30 lbs.?) and $1000 for larger. You don't have to pay it all up front, it comes out of your check a little at a time. And it is totally refundable if you no longer have the dog with you, and of course, if there is no damage. HOW is the only company I found who has a refundable fee. They also require that you drive solo for a period of time before your pet comes on board. At first I thought that was a dumb, annoying rule, until I started driving by myself, and realized the wisdom in that plan! There is so much to adjust to, it's best to get yourself settled in a bit first.

Cats are also allowed, but I don't know any specifics. Someone said they need to be totally declawed, but I can't verify if that is the case.

Good luck! Maybe you'll be returning a wave to me someday soon!

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
