I'm with Knight and finishing up my training at the moment. They pay the hotel, the issue is that if, once you've gone through the course and fail your CDL test twice, you will have to pay for the hotel if you stay to test for a third time. They're getting more strict about the program because it's an accelerated program to earn your CDL and then you go out with a trainer afterwards to learn more about the trucking skills.
I spoke to the trainer again today, the hotel is no longer covered after this coming week so anyone starting after this monday will have to front the bill. Training before cdl test is still 400 but training after you get your cdl is now 500. She said the hotel stay is 4-6 days then you are in a truck. Im going to call the prime recruiter tomorrow while Im on my layover in atlanta, vacation in bahamas not driving layover, and find out all the info. I really want to get started in July so I can get training in and some road time before the snow starts.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
That's pretty crazy. I had heard that they were making some changes but this is one that I haven't heard anyone talking about.
