That way when shippers screw up and I'm sitting in their yard all day (going on 6 hours so far) I have adequate entertainment. Thanks for your cooperation.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

I'm probably the only one here who is an experienced driver but hardly ever drives haha!

I'm training a student right now so I'm sitting in the passenger seat coaching him. I should get on more often.

Fun fact: I've driven 865 miles in the past two weeks.

For the last 2 weeks I have averaged about 1200 miles per week. Just going round and round from pit to dump site and back.

I've been running relatively hard I guess, about 13,000 miles in the last 30 days, but I'm sitting near Bozeman right now waiting to deliver tomorrow, then head home to Missoula for some much needed r&r. This Pilot out here is nice, just showered in one of the nicest showers I've ever seen at a truck stop, and now I'm sitting in a big cushy recliner in the air conditioned lounge watching Terminator 2. Life is good right now!

SITREP: I arrived at 1105 for my 1200 appt. My people (allegedly) never got the message that my load wasn't cleared by quality and wouldn't be ready until 1700 at the earliest. Well it's 2100 and I'm still sitting. Get a fresh 14 in one hour. Gonna have to drink some coffee and maybe try to sneak in a nap so I make it the 3 hour drive.....if they ever load me.

I swear this is me today. Got here at noon still waiting at 1800. Less than 4 hours I get fresh 14 but I hate driving at night, can't see through the turns. At least straight shot out of central fl.

That's what I ended up with. Then my next load picked up at 7pm and I have to drop it at 3am. My dm usually has new running through the day, but this is a go home load so I won't complain.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

That's trucking for you. A few weeks ago I was sent to pick up a load that was supposed to be preloaded for me at 1200. I didn't actually get to leave with the load until 0600 the next morning.
