I'm just not sure what else I can do but be patient and not get frustrated. Every time I turn around there's a roadblock completely out of my control where I see other people smooth sailing. I think it's something to do with California or just maybe bad timing. Story of my life. I'm gonna laugh if I wait this whole time and end up with a P.O.S. instructor.
I apolagize that comment was outta hand, I'm just trying to make this trivial and it's much more frustrating than I'm letting on. I guess that's just how the world turns.
Jeremy Is prime covering Your housing costs while You sit there? What about food? I have to agree with Brett on this. Prime is doing You Waaaay wrong on this one. You have alot more patience than I would. Good luck
Oh they are taking care of me there's no complaints there. I'm just acting impatient hoping to shout out and seek avenues of possibility here.
So I met someone today who said he might take me out tomorrow I'll need to quit smoking which is fine I just picked up the patches. Just gotta be happy and positive I have this chance to begin with.
On a lighter note it's raining cats and dogs here in Springfield. It was nice meeting you Daniel. Hope our paths crOSS again sometime.
PS... I would be all over getting you if it wasn't for the cigs :/. Maybe this is a sign to quit smoking haha
See I could deal with the smoking thing since I am a former smoker, and most smokers are pretty good about keeping the windows down while driving. But I am an anomaly LOL
I find it funny everyone says you'll find am instructor if your in the right place and if you do the right thing, study, practice and etc.
Well I think doing the right thing is what screwed me and is why I'm still here. I spent every day at the pad past whenever everyone left I learned everything on my own with 0 instruction so far and still nothing. I think it will happen soon but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. I'm about to ask them to tear up the contract as nothing has happened yet. Zero instruction. I'll just move on with my life and do something that's actually productive instead of being frozen in time.
Only so much bs a person can take before it becomes starkly obvious they pulled me out here just to get me to sign a contract and make me wait till I give up.
Jeremy, while there's no excuse for it taking a month there has been many obstacles that have hurt you along the way.
1st: a lot of instructors take 4-7 days off for the 4th of July holiday. Going to school for a company that is already extremely short on instructors during a major holiday really hurts your chances.
2nd: by being a smoker you're reducing your chances by 50%. From what I hear, Prime has no non-smoking instructors than smoking instructors. So by being a smoker you're actually setting yourself up to be a potential student to only half of the already short list of instructors.
3rd: yes, location matters. This is why people from the Bronx and NJ always have a difficult time finding an instructor. CA has just as much bs if not more than those states. A lot of truckers simply refuse to even run CA - I know 3 off the top of my head.
4th: most, not all, instructors want to also do the TNT phase with their student. I'm one of them. I can tell you right now I see no profit by being an instructor over driving a LW truck. I'm taking my student through the TNT phase because that's where the money is at. And since you live in CA lots of folks won't run that area and as a result won't take you because they'll have to deal with the BS that is CA to get you on your hometime.
5: as funny as this sounds coming from a fellow youngster, a lot of instructors just don't want to train young students. They think young drivers are not responsible, immature, and are simply harder to work with. Case in point, my student hates using a GOAL - that's the young ****y attitude that young people have an is very unattractive to someone of age.
There's no excuse for Prime, the fact that you're waiting a month is pathetic on their part. There's no excuse for this. But there are lots of things that are hurting your chances as I mentioned above.
Here's what you need to do. Today is Friday and today is where the new instructors finish their class. Seek them out at the building in Prime East. If you see a tractor there, ask the driver if he would consider training you.
If that doesn't work today then here's your next gameplan.
Do not go to Prime East anymore. That place will do you no good after today. They'll be a new class of instructors on Monday at Prime East but don't be spending your time there anymore. We don't have until Friday to just wait for them again.
Go to the examiners pad near the main terminal. You'll see 10-25 students taking their exam every day. Here's what you do.
1: talk to the instructors! They'll be inside the small guard shack building during their test or sitting in their trucks if they aren't testing.
2: ask them to take you on as a student if possible. Get their phone number, do anything to get in with them even if that means waiting until their current student passes.
3: don't be picky go get who you get. At this point you need to take the first offer that pops up.
You need to avoid Prime East after today and go to the heart of where the PSD instructors are. You'll hear a lot say "oh sorry I can't I'm taking my student through the TNT phase" and that's fine. Just move on but before you do that ask them if they know any instructor who is looking for a student.
There are instructors becoming available every day. You should get one if you do what I suggested. I would also talk to Stan about this issue and ask him if he can help you get an instructor.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.
It's not been a month but pretty much a couple das shy. If your a smoker or not a smoker it holds you up one way or another. And yeah I'm gonna go wait at the exam pad I think.
Hindsight is everything g though when they dot tell you california is a pain on the phone. Now I'm about 2,0000 miles from home locked in a contract with nothing happening.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
People waiting a month. At which point will Prime realize that the PSD training package needs to be overhauled so A.) Instructors make more on the front end rather than residuals, and B.) Lease Ops stop having it in their best interest to just go from TNT to TNT.
