I will be starting at Millis Transfer school on 7-27 and I have to get permit before I go. I already have a Class B with air brake and tanker. I believe that I only have to take the Combination test(and any other endorsements that I want) but I am not sure. DMV would not answer phone. Does anyone know if I am correct? Thank You for any help Thanks Joe
I just took my permit test yesterday (and passed, yea!!). There were 3 separate sections, General Knowledge, Airbrakes and Combination (because I wanted the class A). General knowledge was 50 questions (pretty sure), and the other two were about 25 questions each.

Joe, our High Road Training Program was built to prepare you for the CDL permit exam, the endorsement exams, and your job duties on the road. Here's how our program breaks down:
Because you'll know some of this stuff already you should be able to fly through the sections for the permit and endorsements relatively fast. I'm not sure exactly which tests they'll have you take but you can prepare for all of them here.
A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.
Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.
A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
