So I got my CDL and I am getting my first real gig with Celadon. Going to Laredo Texas next week for their refresher course, and then I will go to orientation and then hit the road with my trainer! Does anyone have any advice or tips for the refresher? I am not sure what to expect.
Be patient. If it's anything like Indy it'll be kind of hectic. Big company, lies of moving parts. Seems like they don't always work with a great amount of cohesion. I was a new hire though.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Remember the old adage: "Measure twice and cut once." for when you are backing up, always double check/triple check just to make sure you have the room. I seen lots of nasty things when I worked in retail of drivers misjudging where the dock was, and it wasn't pretty at all.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Thanks for the input thus far! I guess I'm just nervous because it has been a couple of months since I have driven, and I haven't done any shifting or anything like that since I got out of CDL school. I am also sort of nervous about getting my trainer, I'm just really hoping I have a relaxed trainer who isn't burned out and is as excited as I am.

Even if you have a trainer that is not that excited just remember that soon you will be on your own and the captain of your own ship, that is what I am looking forward to anyways.

I also will be attending their "refresher course" in Laredo on Monday July 20, 2015. Keep me informed about what to expect, I've also been out of trucking for a while now after doing team and solo driving , I'm looking forward to getting back in.
