Hey, I'm working on the edit now. Out of curiosity, why do you want the entire section about the steering column deleted? Are they no longer capable of breaking? Did Prime invent an indestructible column? Seems like something should be on there about it.

I've made all of the edits except deleting the steering column. I really like steering columns! I'll wait to hear back from ya about that one specifically.

The steering column was on the pretrip inspection exam but it was removed. Basically, they had all the steering components separate but since then they've added them all into one item (Steering Linkage). So if you inspect the steering column you won't be wrong, but at the same time you won't get any credit by mentioning it.

So we could keep it in there, I don't have any problem with that.

The one thing I don't see mentioned on there was to check for play in the U-Joints or loose bolts holding the U-joints to the steering column and input shaft on the power steering pump. That was my concern. You covered the entire steering linkage from the power steering pump to the hubs but nothing about the U-Joints or bolts on the column from the steering wheel to the power steering pump. I didn't know if those items were something they were saying to check for specifically. They should be, but it may not be on the test. So I just wanted to clarify that.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Yep that's not on the exam. This is an inspection to make sure your vehicle is safe for the road, yet, we don't check all the parts to make sure they're safe. I would expect them to take the steering components more seriously but what do I know I'm just a driver..

Yeah I know what ya mean. Well I'll just leave that picture of the steering column in there I guess. It certainly won't hurt. Besides, I'd hate to have the steering column come apart at a U-Joint and have someone cussing us out as they plummet off a cliff cuz we didn't tell em to check that.

Hi Daniel! I was wondering if that pre-trip for Prime is for ALL locations? I'm scheduled for the Pittston, PA terminal 8/17 and getting a 'leg up' is always a good way to go. I'll have a CDL when I arrive, should I start looking for that trainer now?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
