Hey guys im leaving tomorrow early for Wisconsin to do my training with Roehl Transport. Im a little worried about the traffic around Chicago. Ive always been told its really bad but i wasnt sure if it would be that bad on a sunday afternoon. Ill be rolling thru there around 1 in the afternoon. Basically what i want to know is if that is an ok time to go thru or should i try a different time?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

If you take I 294 north to I 94 West it shouldn't be to bad but any day of the week in the afternoon if you take I 94 straight through Chicago it's a parking lot

A remarkable number of people leave Chicago on the weekends for Wisconsin and return Sunday evening. So getting back into Chicago on a Sunday evening from the North or West can be a bit of a mess. Getting through Chicago during the afternoon heading for Wisconsin shouldn't be too bad assuming the construction isn't too awful and there aren't any big wrecks to contend with.
