Hi I was wondering who would be the best company to go to for my CDL A training? I am an Australian with 15 years Driving experience in semi's and bigger combination trucks Any help, phone numbers, etc would be appreciated .

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Stuart, I wish it was that easy. You're going to have to establish a residency here, get a green card to work here, and get a regular driver's license before you can begin the process of getting your CDL. The standards and requirements here are very strict. It's going to be a long process I'm afraid.

Stuart, I wish it was that easy. You're going to have to establish a residency here, get a green card to work here, and get a regular driver's license before you can begin the process of getting your CDL. The standards and requirements here are very strict. It's going to be a long process I'm afraid.

As Brett said, a long process...... Once you get your regular DL, you will need to have it for at least 1 year before you can even think about getting your CDL class A. Good luck....

Thanks guys, I was hoping there would be a system of mutual recognition in place,, I will be talk to friends in Colorado about this situation. I already have visa/ green card sponsorship if I want it so approval most likely wont be an issue. also I have been assured that there is a massive driver shortage in the states at the moment and could be classed as a skilled worker.. theres lots to look at,, anyway thanks

There's an Australian on Youtube (alwaysoffroad) who has done trucking in North America. He's back in Australia now, but I believe he got a trucking job through a canadian company. It may be easier getting a truck job via Canada.

I found the right visa to come over on,, it entitles me to work, get a car licence and a cdl within a week if I so wish then drive, thanks for the incentive to find a way
