Carl,

I'm looking to move to PA once I retire from the Marines. I'm thinking about attending DCS school of trucking in York. How did you decide on reefer?

I start at DCS next month. Great reputation he has but hear he doesn't go easy on you. Purposely puts you in some tough spots. He wants you to learn now while you have someone with you rather then figuring out those tough spots later.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

6 string speaks very highly of the training. Did you consider the 240 hr program at HACC? What companies are you looking at after graduation? I'd really appricate hearing about your experience as you go through DCS.

I honestly did not even know about HACC. I also looked at York school of technology, LCCTC and Shelly transport. After talking to them all I was convinced Chris was the most honest and best fit for me. I have talked to people at Conway, Estes, Kinard, Duie Pyle, OD and ABF. I will be going around to them all again before school starts and seeing if I can get any pre offers. Oh also talked to UNFI. PM me if you have any questions

I've heard that the York/Harrisburg area has a good amount of local driving opportunities for new drivers. As you know, 6 string landed a linehaul job right out of the gate, and hopefully you'll have the same luck. Good luck in school and please send me a PM and/or post your experience. Thanks.

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.
