Good day folks,

I have a CDL B question and the school bus company that tested me and passed me. (background) They train you to drive a school bus and because they are a 3rd party testing site you get your CDL B through them. And work for them or you have to pay them back for the testing and time they gave you. I passed last Friday. Down at the DMV I also passed my general knowledge for class B, School bus, Passenger and L-air brakes. Only thing I am waiting for now are my finger prints to come back in the mail. The school bus company said I can't get my S card till they have that. I know I have 2 things on there and was very up front with them. They said because its so old it shouldn't be a problem. (no felonies)

Now my question is, since they paid for my testing. If for some strange reason they don't hire me after I passed everything because of my past history. Can they legally withhold my CDL B license from me? Or by law they have to submit that to the state and I still get it? I would like to have that CDL B license so I can pick up some side work with a trucking company. Your thoughts are welcomed.

p.s. if I didn't explain something feel free to ask and I'll explain further.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Boomshaker lets see if I can answer your question. When I decided I wanted to be a commercial driver I applied to my local transit company. At the time I applied they were also offering to train for our class b cdl. I jumped on it. After a few weeks of training I went to the DMV and passed all my exams and the driving test. The company I worked for made me sign a contract that I had to work for a specific amount of time ( mine was 6 months) to repay my training or quit and pay back like 6or 700 dollars. I think that might also be your case. You can always ask someone that works there

Thanks Cristian. so here is the final decision from the school bus company. After viewing my criminal history they said they were NOT going to hire me. Mind you we are talking about two things that have been done and over with more that 24 years ago. No jail time. Simple probation. But I am not complaining, because after all was said and done (and I have to thank GOD for this) they said they were going to allow my passed CDL B to go to Harrisburg Pa. So basically I didn't get the job but God saved me over $3,500 in class b training. woooohoooooo LOL I got it for free.

So now I am waiting for my license to come in the mail in 2-3 weeks and in the mean time I am looking for companies that have some sort of apprenticeship programs.

Any of you guys and gals know of any companies in the Pa. area that have some sort of apprenticeship programs? Or hire with no experience? Thank you as always folks.
