I have a wifi box with true unlimited LTE data from Impact Wireless ($80/mo). They are a reseller of TMobile service...but they do not throttle you back to prehistoric speeds after 15gb a month - the typical max LTE service from others.

I also have Verizon phone service and will create a hotspot with that if I'm not in an area TMo covers...but the problem there is the throttle back after the monthly cap is reached.

I have a subscription to Pilot/Flying J service ($100/yr) to use when parked at those truck stops...which I do about half the time. But when parked at a shipper/receiver like I am tonight, the Impact Wireless unit is great....I'm in Denver tonight and the Impact Wireless unit works great.

I have subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and MLB. Those give me all the programming that I am interested in.

I previously had a company-subsidized Direct TV setup briefly, but I had the company remove it and instead had them install a WeBoost antenna on the sat antenna mount. I didn't like the Direct TV thing because it was a case of a zillion channels but nothing on...it was not an in-motion system, so by the time I would get the antenna locked to the satellite and find something to watch, it was time to go to sleep. I didn't realize it wasn't an in-motion system when I had it put in....my plan had been to set it to record stuff while I drove and then select from the recordings when I wanted to watch. After I found out that I couldn't do that, I switched to the setup I described above. Now, I can start any movie or show whenever I want to, and MLB records everything themselves for streaming as desired.

Anyone have advice for the best and most cost effective tv service for the truck?

My wife will be riding with me once I go solo in my own truck. For those of you in this similar situation have you or your spouse run across any income opportunities for your ride long spouse/mate that does not include them driving? Any thoughts would be appreciated and if we ever come across any I will be sure to post them. Thanks.

Rules and regulations, driving safely, transporting cargo safely, are what you need for "general knowledge" (pages 1 -35 on high road). For a CLASS A CDL you will need "combination vehicles", which is pages 48-54. Although technically its an endorsement you will also need to do Airbrakes, pages 41-47. If you look at your progress on there it will list what the category is and if its for permit or endorsement. DO ALL OF THEM THAT ARE LISTED AS PERMIT. after you have your permit id recommend getting a jump start on learning PRE TRIP. There is a section in high road regarding that, but also one of the moderators here who was a trainer with prime created one with pictures.

I am currently going through the training material with my wife as we are going into this together. The company we have signed on with has advised us to study General Knowledge, Combinations and Air Brakes for our permit. We are confused as to which categories are General Knowledge on the Higher Learning. Is it Rules & regulations, Driving safely, both, or any of the other categories as well? Can someone hep us out, we are in Missouri.

Are the CDL training material questions from the Illinois manual? If so I am in Missouri where can I find review material and test questions for my state?

Guys clearly I haven't conveyed our thoughts and intentions correctly. Brett while I appreciate your "tough love" approach I think your last post was a but too sarcastic. If your intent is to help then I appreciate the approach given by Old School and G-Town versus the mocking of our words. But trust me I am not offended and I appreciate the real world advice being given. Please understand prior to my ever visiting your site when we first started considering trucking we spoke with numerous truckers that we know personally about the life. In fact it was one of those truckers that directed us to your site. So while I will never say we know what we are in for we have some ideas from them and now from your site. Please don't misinterpret my words and assume we feel this is like any other job, or we feel as though this career will give us all the quality time we want together. When I spoke about that I was only referring to the time we could have on our down days in another part of the country. We are clearly aware the demands of the job will require one to sleep while the other is driving and no we don't know how it is to sleep in a moving truck or how we will react to being in such a small space all the time. Because I have not mentioned something in any of my posts does not mean we have thought about or considered it, for example yes we both love to drive. We also are aware of the success rate of drivers who start and not finish for whatever reason. We are aware we are coming from outside trucking, this is why we sought out advice from the truckers we know as friends who have given us real world advice based on their experiences, and we trust these individuals because we know them personally. It is also why we sought out your site for more real world advice. We truly appreciate the things you are saying and yes we are reading ALL the information provided on your site. In fact we already know we have to be prepared to take our permit teat in the first day of training with Wil-Trans. If you look at my last post I made it clearly that we fully intend to ask more questions and seek out any help we might need from your site and we will continue to seek out the advice of our friends. Guys we are not going into this with blinders out and with the ****iness of knowing we will succeed. But we will never know if we don't make the attempt.

Brett and Old School, we appreciate your responses however I want you all to understand where we are coming from. We are approaching this as we would any job we would be considering irregardless of the field. Please understand our final decision would not be based solely on answers on this or any other site. Our faith and our creator helped us make our decision. We have basically made our minds on the direction we want to go, we were just asking generally what people thought of the companies. I have never made a decision on anything based solely on someone's opinion, in fact I have always been a believer in finding out for myself and making the best of any situation. My wife and I have considered all the things mentioned on these posts and along with prayer we made a decision on what is best for us. We both believe the success of any job or for that matter anything that you do is based on what you put into it. We don't expect an easy road, in fact we know we are going to face challenges we have never seen before and we are prepared to deal with those. With everything in life there is good and bad, it's how you handle the bad that determines your true success. We are getting into this business because we are empty nesters, we love to travel and we love spending time together so why not get paid for it. But believe me when I say we don't expect this to fall into our laps. We believe if we approach this like we have everything else we will be successful and happy in the long run. So we value the real time and real life info provided on this site and will continue to ask questions if we have any and hopefully we will ask the right ones one day!!

So we made our decision and we are sticking with it provided we make it through acceptance and training. If all goes well look forward to speaking with all of you down the line. In the mean time you all stay safe and maybe (God willing) we may meet on the road one day.

My wife and I have been looking at both Wil Trans and Jim Palmer and are wondering if anyone is currently employed by or in training with either company and can give us some insight into either company. We are impressed with what we have read so far but would like some real world insight from anyone that is associated with or have dealt with either company.
