Congrats!!! Which location??
Gerry Indiana I will be driving a flatbed. I figure that won't be backing into as many docks as other trucks unless I am wrong. I know a lot of people have said that those trucks are the worst to drive but so many people are so negative I take the negativity with a grain of salt. Roehl has been upfront with me and gave me a chance I have a certain amount of loyalty to them because of it. I wish I could see somebody to a pre-trip I have studied them like crazy. I went to the UPS INTEGRAD training in Phoenix we had to do a pre-trip as part of our training. But it was easy compared to this we didn't even have to open up the hood. I do think the the 3 points of contact that was grilled into us and the way they grilled us on what they did do on the pre-trip will come in handy. The driver test was very intense stale green lights clearing cross walks and intersections having to point out anything and everything while driving smoke coming out of tailpipes wheels being turned out showing a car about to move. Not sure if all that goes on with the driving test here but can't hurt.

Paul, one of the forum members, Turtle, has an excellent video on YouTube showing the Walmart pretrip. I put the location above. It’s found on the GetRich@Walmart YouTube channel. I highly recommend that you find and watch it for your training preparation. Also check out the link below.
A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.
Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

Gary can be a rough neighborhood for sure. At least I heard the road getting in is better these days. It was so bad years ago you could loose a small car in the potholes. I can’t tell you much about the facitlity, they had plans for it, but I haven’t been there in 10 years.
Flatbed has it own challenges. Biggest is learning the securement rules front ward and backward. At times flatbeds back into or up to a dock. They do have a curtainside division also. Tarping isn’t hard, just labor intensive.
Keep us posted on your progress.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Another one to study. The in cab air brake test trips up a lot of students.
The pre-trip in my video, while fairly thorough, will differ somewhat from Roehl's requirements.
Each company, even each examiner, may require a specific process or verbiage from the student. So while pre-trip videos are helpful to begin building muscle memory, they are no substitute for what you will learn on site from your instructor.
However, if you want to check it out you can find it here:
For a new driver, I'd recommend going here for a more generic version of a standard CDL pre-trip exam. It's the very same video I studied wayyyy back in the day.

Thanks for the links I went to INTEGRAD training for UPS so a lot of the pre-trip I am familiar with but the break down of how everything works under the hood was excellent as well as the procedure of the air brakes. I been passing that on a paper test but I been wanting to see what it is all about for the in cab test. That really joined the book knowledge with the video I just saw you guys rock thanks. A quick question for the tarp do I have to be able to hold 90 lbs over my head for several minutes to do it. I am not sure I am strong enough to do that I am not weak but I was testing myself with 2 30 pound dumbbells and it seemed like 90 would be a lot.
do I have to be able to hold 90 lbs over my head for several minutes
No. At most you'll have to lift it momentarily or lift it up to deck height, or something similar.
PJ started at Roehl if I remember correctly. Maybe he'll have a more precise answer.
